If you own a restaurant, work in a hospital, a truck stop or anywhere that uses a commercial kitchen exhaust system, you will need to make sure that your system is fully compliant with NFPA guidelines and is fire safe for everyone who enters the building.
Your commercial grease hood is intended to consume grease from your cooking operations. The grease is then exhausted through the baffle filters, into the plenum (the area behind the filters). This then goes up the grease duct, through the fan and into the air, or it is captured by a grease tray or cup beneath the fan.
The NFPA 96 standards outlines routine hood cleaning for the following reasons:

Licensed through the International Code Council (iccsafe.org) and following all NFPA 10 & NFPA 17A requirements to install, inspect, test, and maintain all classes of fire extinguishers correctly to ensure that all fire extinguishing systems, including wet chemical extinguishing systems, function as intended to protect life and property from fire.
A fire suppression is designed to automatically detect a fire and put the fire out. Systems have to be checked semi-annually to ensure they work as intended. They also have a manual pull to activate the system if needed. We check each system thoroughly by preforming a dry test to make sure the system will operate correctly, and we check gas valves to confirm that the fuel supply ceases. We clean out the pipping to ensure nothing has clogged and we follow the fire codes exactly to guarantee minimal damage if a fire ever does occur.
We perform monthly inspections and annual maintenance that will give you the confidence that when you squeeze the handle of the fire extinguisher, it performs as intended.
We follow the fire codes and manufacturer requirements for maintenance which includes maintenance on internal parts every 5 years for wet chemical extinguishers and 6 years for dry chemical extinguishers. We also perform Hydrostatic testing that is required every 5 years for wet chemical extinguishers and 12 years for dry chemical extinguishers.
NFPA 101 and 70 dictate that emergency illumination shall be provided for a minimum of 90 minutes. Our monthly lighting inspections are a quick check to ensure there are no obvious issues and our annual check, required by law to be completed by a certified technician, is a thorough examination of the unit which includes checking the battery to make sure it will power the unit for the required 90 minutes. Lack of proper lighting and exit markings will leave you liable in the case of power outage or fire.
We install and service grease containment units and hinge kits. Grease containment units are crucial to keeping the grease that comes out of your fan off of your roof. Allowing grease to accumulate on your roof can lead to costly roof repairs. The grease will eat into the roof causing shingles to turn to mush which leads to roof repairs. The units we provide have mesh filters that are designed to catch grease and allow clean water to flow through. We check these filters at each cleaning and replace them as needed to keep your roof grease free.
Hinge Kits are a crucial part of the hood cleaning process, they allows us to safely lean the fan back 90 degrees to access the bottom side of the fan as well as the duct work. Without a complete functioning hinge kit the fan has to be laid on the ground, this causes damage to the fan because they are made of very thin metal. If the fan gets badly bent it can cause the fins inside of the fan to rub and cause damage that would lead to the whole fan needing replaced.
